Published Sep 02, 2020After adding up "Dollas and Cents" last month on a new single, TOBi has now paired his latest with a music video.
Directed by Ifeme C.S., the clip chronicles a long distance relationship between the artist in Toronto and lead Tiwa Pearl in his native Nigeria. Keen-eyed viewers may have recently spotted Pearl in Beyoncé's Black Is King visual album.
"I was supposed to be in Nigeria in March 2020 for the first time since I left as a child. The pandemic ruined that plan but I still wanted to connect with the motherland and cook up a video across the Atlantic," TOBi explains in a statement. "So that's exactly what we did and it was a dope experience to work with creatives in the Naija scene. The dancer in the video (Tiwa) was actually cast in Black Is King as well and I didn't know until I was watching it."
"Dollas and Cents" marks TOBi's first release for Same Plate Entertainment/RCA Records, and follows the release of his historic "24 (Toronto Remix)," featuring Haviah Mighty, Shad, Jazz Cartier and Ejji Smith.
Exclaim! named TOBi's debut Still one of the 10 Most Underrated Albums of 2019. Last year, he also spoke to us about mental health as a Canadian musician.
